Not So Swedish Meatball

Last year, the people here in Indonesia they went crazy about the opening of our very first IKEA store. It was very crowded even on weekdays, I got lucky that I've been there on their first day opening to taste their famous IKEA Swedish Meatballs. So, I used to make my own meatballs but mostly Italian style that served with tomato sauce, and finally I made (what I called) Not So Swedish Meatball. The original recipe usually called for the combination of ground pork and beef but I made mine with only ground beef.

Ingredients:

Meatballs:
  • 250 gr ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsp milk or as needed
  • half onion, minced, sauteed
  • grated nutmeg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all purpose flour or as needed
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup cooking cream
  • salt to taste

Directions:
  1. Mix all the ingredients, except butter
  2. Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and let it sit in a fridge for at least 2-3 hours
  3. Form the mixture into balls, around 1 inch diameter
  4. Bake the meatballs in the oven at 200C for about 30 minutes or cook it on a pan by melting some butter, flip once a while until golden brown
  5. For the sauce, use the same pan, melt the butter, add in the flour. Whisk in until brown, pour the beef broth slowly, and lastly the cooking cream. Add salt to taste
